If you’ve read the entirety of the Bible before, I applaud you, and this is probably not for you.
This is really for the atheists and the agnostics, but if you’re a committed Christian who hasn’t read anything for themselves, you might like this too.
Let’s talk about some of the events from the Bible that are popular in culture — some that even those that don’t care, will still know:
Creation of earth, animals, Heaven, Hell
Adam and Eve, the Garden, the Serpent
David vs. Goliath
Noah’s Ark
The 10 Commandments
Moses parting the Red Sea
Virgin Mary giving birth to Jesus (nativity scene)
Jesus dies for ours sins Friday, comes back on Sunday
Cain kills his brother Abel
Daniel in Lion’s Den
Those are my top 10 and I think most experts would agree that those are the most of the big ones. Hopefully you’re familiar with most of these (least familiar are likely 3, 9, 10).
Okay, this next one is for you non-readers especially: the Old Testament is 1165 pages (using my Oxford/Cambridge New English Bible, 1970), so how many of events 1-10 above do you think are described in the first 50 pages?
Make your guess now!
The answer:
1, 2, 4, 5, 6, & 9 all happen in the first 50 pages, with most happening in Genesis (the first “chapter”). Honorable mentions: Joseph’s cloak, Abram becomes Abraham, lots of Lineage Math, the Tower of Babel. First 50 pages for all.
Go reading the fucking Bible. I don’t care how many times you have to read the word “begot” — you put your nose down and make it to page 50, please.
